The RICS-led shift toward whole-life-carbon assessment and net-zero pathway competency is bleeding into hiring. Two years ago, sustainability experience helped your candidacy; in 2026, on senior commercial and project-management roles, its absence is increasingly disqualifying. The shift is fastest at the larger consultancies (Arup, Mott MacDonald, AECOM, WSP) and on public-sector frameworks. For career movers, this is genuinely high-leverage: a focused 6–12 months on a sustainability-led project (or even shadowing one in your current role) gives you a credible answer to the screening questio
