Science and Technology Facilities Council seeks an undergraduate for a 9-week summer placement researching and modeling detectors for ultrafast electron diffraction. Your Role Key responsibilities include: Complete an options analysis of various detector types and their achievable parameters. Develop a model of an electron diffraction detector through electron simulations and other calculations, employing specialist software and coding techniques. Build experience working in a large-scale physics research facility and contribute to ongoing design activities of an ultrafast electron diffraction machine. About You What you'll need: Currently in full-time undergraduate education and returning to studies after the placement. Right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement. Practical experience or previous university study in physics, science, or engineering disciplines. Sound understanding of electrodynamics and special relativity. Practical experience using Python, Mathematica, or similar software for physics problem-solving or data analysis.
